Apex - Successfully used in car tires for years, the Apex stabilizes the tire when cornering. A technology that is also useful for large-volume bicycle tires: The Apex is a rubber profile that is placed between the carcass layers on the base of the tire. It stiffens the sidewalls of the tire and thus minimizes the twisting of the tire under high lateral loads. In addition, the stiffened sidewalls reduce the risk of puncture damage and prevent the tire from slipping off the rim. These properties make the APEX ideal for our downhill and freeride tires: The operating pressure can be further reduced in favor of grip without having to accept spongy cornering behavior or an increased risk of puncture.
Black Chili Compound - Black Chili Compound is the name of our new, revolutionary tread compound, which is based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research. For Black Chili, we refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create particularly high-performance tread compounds. We add nano-sized soot particles to these rubbers, which are optimized in terms of shape and surface properties in order to tailor the compound to the specific purpose of the tire. Tires with Black Chili Compound achieve an unprecedented level of performance. Compared to activated silica tires, Black Chili tires have 26% lower rolling resistance, 30% higher static friction (grip) and 5% higher mileage.
